A company team-building session can be a boring compulsory round... or an experience you'll still be talking about in the kitchen months later. If you're organising a team-building event, don't just throw together a list of activities. Give your team an experience, a connection, a recharge.
Here are 5 + 1 useful tips to make your next team-building session not just a “ get it done ”, but a real experience.
1. Know what the purpose of team building is
Before you start looking for a programme, think: what do you want to achieve with this team building?
- Strengthen team cohesion? Maybe an experience you can share.
- To release a little pressure? Include movement, laughter, nature.
- Improve communication? Choose activities that involve thinking, talking, deciding together.
Once you have the goal, the program is easier.
2. Don't just have fun - thrive
The best team builder entertains and develops at the same time. We're not talking about PowerPoint presentations here, but experiential learning.
- A workshop where problem solving is the key.
- Cooking or beer brewing together, where you have to work as a team.
- Challenges to develop cooperation playfully.
If the team learns something that they then use at work - that's a win-win.
3. Match the team
Not all teams like to play paintball. And not everyone is a fan of mandala painting. Get to know your team and choose the activities that suit them:
- Is your team more active? Go hiking, adventure park, numbers war.
- Are you more creative? Try painting, dancing, creating together.
- Are you brainy? Logic game, escape room, quiz.
One thing matters: everyone should feel involved.

4. Team building in nature
If you're going to do team building, don't do it in a neon-lit conference room. In nature, you can connect in a different way - to have new shared experiences.
- Hiking or water sports
- Having a barbecue together
- Yoga in the meadow or breathing exercises in the woods
These are not only relaxing, but also strengthen team cohesion.
5. Try something different
Beer brewing, breathwork session, night tour - the special events will be the real memories.
Not only does an experience like this bring you closer together, but it also breaks you out of your comfort zone - and when you step out of your comfort zone, something good always comes out of it. 🙂
+ 1. Unique team building venue
It's no use having a cool programme if the venue is like sitting in a meeting room, like any other working day.
A team building location is good if:
- no one interrupts ( it's private)
- there is space for both group and individual activities
- special, memorable
A really good team- building session doesn't start at the venue - but it's where the experience is determined.
